DERMAROLLER THERAPY
The procedure with the Titanium Dermaroller is commonly known as Skin Needling or Collagen Induction Therapy and is designed to trigger new collagen synthesis in the skin, leading to younger, brighter and healthier-looking skin.
As you roll over the skin, numerous ultra-fine micro-needles create microscopic punctures on the skin’s surface. By opening the skin in this way you increase the penetration of any product, and create miniature perforations that stimulate the skin’s healing mechanisms, increasing production of many important factors for a healthy skin.
The concept is based on the skin’s natural ability to repair itself whenever it encounters physical damage. Immediately after an injury occurs to the skin, our body uses collagen and elastin fibres as well as other damaged skin components to produce new ones. Skin Needling allows for controlled induction of the skin’s self repair mechanism by creating micro“injuries” in the skin which trigger new collagen synthesis, yet does not pose the risk of permanent scarring.
Skin Needling will induce collagen synthesis on its own (Dry Skin Needling), but skin improvement is significantly enhanced by combining Skin Needling treatments with the application of various serums during and post treatment.
Both vitamin A and C work to induce collagen synthesis and help regenerate the skin and these are used in my treatment.
The needles used by MMC Holistic Therapies are 0.2mm, 0.3mm and 0.5mm.
Derma Rollers are supported by clinical studies to be effective in non-surgical and non-ablative treatment for a variety of skin conditions. These include ageing, wrinkles, fine lines and acne scarring.
MICROCURRENT FACIAL
Clinical studies show that microcurrent procedures trigger the production of amino acids, the body’s natural building blocks which are involved with accelerating cell production and repair. This means that cells can be restored and the body can start producing healthier skin cells in a very short period of time.
Results are not instant but the skin will appear tighter and firmer after just one facial session. Most people experience the best results about three weeks after the session when the body goes through its natural detoxification and cell turnover process.
Ultimately, microcurrent treatments are a healing, repairing and rejuvenation treatment and can be an effective way to brighten up dull skin and reduce lines, wrinkles and scar tissues.
MASKS
One of the main benefits of masks is the ability they have to hydrate and strengthen the skin. Collagen masks are being boasted as the most skin-friendly type of mask. They are being marketed as being perfect for allergy prone skins and sensitive skins.
The masks I use are high-quality of extraordinary purity, manufactured with insoluble collagen fibres and include amino acids and peptides. The masks contain no preservatives, chemical cross-linking agents or perfume additives and offer outstanding hydration and an impressive anti-irritation effect.
Ingredients used in the facials
Amino acids are the ‘building blocks’ of the body and one of their functions is to build cells and repair tissue. Arginine, as a component of collagen, can assist with skin problems and help the skin to heal.
Peptides act as a signal to tell your skin it's damaged and to make new collagen so applying peptides directly to your skin is a way to trick your skin into thinking that it has lost collagen recently and needs to make more.
Azulene is obtained from Roman Chamomile and has a spectacular blue colour. Chamomile contains a wide variety of active constituents but the fascinating holistic effect is the result of all of the components working together. In clinical studies Azulene has been shown to exhibit dramatic anti-inflammatory effects. This means that application of these natural substances will help to prevent skin blemishes from developing and will help stop deterioration of skin cells that leads to wrinkles, fine lines and pigmentation.
Caviar is loaded with protein, vitamins and minerals and has a cell format similar to human skin. It helps to speed up the natural production of collagen and in time helps to plump up and thicken the skin giving it a younger, firmer appearance.
Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is extremely effective as an anti oxidant natural defence against free radicals, which are unstable molecules that age the skin, resulting from environmental pollutants, smoking, or excess sun exposure. Vitamin C also helps to counteract the oxidisation process required to create melanin so if it’s inhibited then the action of skin pigmentation is reduced.
Vitamin A (or Retinol) helps with acne, eczema and healing. It improves skin texture, helps reduce fine lines and wrinkles and decreases enlarged pores. Retinoids are often used in acne preparations by dermatologists.
Red Alert Serum is a highly effective anti-redness serum containing Teprenone that reduces the skin cells sensitivity. It works by reducing the blood flow to the skin which in turn reduces erythema (redness). It’s not known exactly how Teprenone works. Originally a molecule used in the treatment
of gastric ulcers, it produced incredible anti-redness results when used topically in investigative trials. It has now been approved for cosmetic use.
Prelase Peel (Medik8 facial) contains the following three ingredients:
Glycolic Acid (Ph 2.5 – 3.0) is a small hydroxy acid that when applied to the skin reacts with the upper layer of the epidermis, weakening the binding properties of the lipids that hold the dead skin cells together. This allows one of the layers of the skin to be exfoliated by exposing live skin cells. The Ph level of a peel is important because if too high it will not exfoliate effectively and if too low it could damage the skin.
L Lactic Acid contains good skin-lightening properties and works on the surface of the skin to help tone, texture and pigmentation. The Lactic acid molecule works to pull moisture into the cells and exfoliate surface cells. This helps perfect the skin's surface and restore the skin's natural glow.
Salicylic Acid helps loosen the bonds between skin cells to promote exfoliation. It is the only hydroxy acid that is oil soluble, allowing it to penetrate clogged pores.
Essential Oils
The value of essential oils to skin care is so numerous it would take reams of pages to list them all! However here are just a few of the most popular I use in my facials:
Lavender: Includes antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. It’s a healing oil and aids acne, scar tissue and skin disorders such as eczema.
Rose: One of the best oils for skin care, Rose is an extremely soothing oil. It’s especially valuable for dry, sensitive or ageing skins. It has a tonic and astringent effect on the capillaries just below the skin surface, which makes it useful in diminishing
the redness caused by enlarged capillaries.
Jasmine:Apart from its gorgeous aroma, Jasmine oil tones dry, greasy, irritated and sensitive skin, increases elasticity and is often used to assist with reducing scarring.
Geranium: A balancing oil that is very useful in treating congested, combination or acne prone skin. It's also good if you have combination skin. It has antiseptic properties so not only does it help heal, but it helps prevent infection.
Camellia: Known as the beauty secret of the Geishas this oil is prized for its highly restorative and rejuvenating effect on the skin. It’s a wonderful moisturiser and non-clogging oil very rich in mono-saturated essential fatty acids. Camellia oil contains vitamins, A, B, and E and various minerals. It also contains Squalene, a natural moisturiser that helps maintain good skin texture. It smoothes rough and flaky skin and soothes and calms easily irritated skin.
Coconut: Coconut oil is a safe solution for preventing dryness and flaking of skin. It prevents free-radical formation and provides protection against them thereby helping the skin from developing liver spots and other blemishes caused by ageing and over exposure to sunlight. It helps to keep connective tissues strong and supple so that the skin doesn't sag and wrinkle.
